Can we afford to ignore the silent suffering of our children?

What's exactly happening...

In the heart of India, a distressing reality unfolds as bullying, discrimination, and harassment plague our educational institutions and communities, casting a shadow over the lives of our children and young adults. These pervasive issues in educational institutions and communities across Chennai cause severe and long-lasting damage to children and young adults, leading to depression, low self-esteem, loneliness, physical health problems, and in extreme cases, self-harm or suicide. Underreporting of such incidents exacerbates the problem, leaving many victims without the necessary support and intervention. Therefore, it is imperative to launch an impactful anti-bullying campaign in Chennai, one that not only raises awareness about the dire consequences of bullying but also fosters empathy and empowerment within our communities.

By addressing the root causes of bullying, promoting inclusivity, and providing resources for support and intervention, we can create a safer and more compassionate environment for our children and young adults to thrive. Engage with young individuals to actively involve them in the campaign, empowering them with the necessary tools and knowledge to confidently address challenges. Enable children and youth to advocate effectively for themselves and others, while encouraging inclusive behavior and gender sensitivity among them.

We’re taking this impactful initiative citywide, reaching every school, college, and community in Chennai. From diverse socio-economic backgrounds, we’re ensuring continuous conversations about preventing bullying, discrimination, and harassment all year long.

1. Step-by-Step Support: SCF will guide beneficiaries, including students, parents, and teaching staff, through a structured program. Starting with sensitization initiatives, to inspire kindness and inclusive actions through various engaging events like Art, Speech, Drama, and even Short filmmaking (exclusively for colleges).
2. Year-Round Engagement: With the help of Support Groups established within each institution, we’ll continue the dialogue and plan initiatives throughout the year. This means sustained efforts to promote kindness and inclusivity in educational settings.
3. Impact: Each institution is expected to reach a minimum of 1000 beneficiaries through this intervention. That’s a significant number of individuals positively impacted by our collective efforts.

Communities facing Socio-Economic Challenges

LFA Sports Academy

This initiative was designed for students of LFA Sports Academy from socio-economic backgrounds that often face challenges in accessing resources and support. The program focused on raising awareness about bullying, discrimination, and harassment, educating students on recognizing these behaviors and preventing them. Clear guidelines and reporting procedures were outlined, and students were equipped with communication and assertiveness skills to advocate for a zero-tolerance approach. Emphasis was placed on promoting empathy, inclusion, and upstanding behavior, encouraging students to support those targeted and take constructive action.

To familiarize students with these concepts, creative expression was incorporated through the use of thoughtfully designed posters that conveyed key messages about kindness, inclusion, and zero tolerance for harmful behaviors. Additionally, students were taught a kindness pledge to solidify their understanding and commitment to these values.

The Kindness Campaign: Igniting Change at Women’s Christian College, Chennai

In August 2024, SStraight Circles Foundation took a transformative step forward with The Kindness Campaign at Women’s Christian College, Chennai. Centered around the powerful vision, “I WANT A SAFE INDIA”, the campaign launched to a packed auditorium of over 500 students, marking the beginning of our mission to combat gender-based violence, bullying, discrimination, and harassment.

The highlight of the event was an inspiring Open Mic session, where brave performers shared personal stories, traumas, and triumphs, filling the space with raw courage and resilience. These voices didn’t just make an impact—they sparked a movement. Through heartfelt performances, startling statistics, and insights from mentors like Rasika Sundaram, the event galvanized students to join the cause.

We extend our heartfelt gratitude to the Departments of English and Visual Communication, the performers, student volunteers, and SCF supporters who made this campaign impactful. Together, we are lighting the way toward a safer, kinder India. The Kindness Campaign is just beginning, and we’re ready to take this message to more locations, embracing the challenge with strength and unity.

Open Mic Event: The Kindness Campaign – A Powerful Debut

On December 14th, we hosted a transformative 🎤 Open Mic event as part of The Kindness Campaign, bringing together voices from diverse backgrounds to address some of the most pressing social issues of our time. The event focused on themes of bullying, discrimination, and gender-based violence, inspiring raw, honest, and courageous performances that deeply resonated with everyone present.

From heartfelt personal stories of resilience to poetry, stand-up comedy, and soulful singing, the scheduled performances created an atmosphere of openness and vulnerability. The energy of the event even encouraged audience members to step up spontaneously and share their own experiences, sparking a ripple effect of courage and connection. This public debut filled us with immense gratitude, as it highlighted the strength and support within the community.

Together, we are fostering a community built on understanding, empathy, and a commitment to positive change. Let’s keep this important conversation alive as we work towards a future where respect, equality, and safety are fundamental for all.
